Keep climbing

This week we launched a B2B communication tour. We met with business owners to discuss the AMC 3 C’s Mindful Communication Model™, and possible collaborations. I even made a house call! I visited with half a dozen small business owners in the Metro Detroit area. I experienced some of their services or products. These people are authentic, creative, soulful, strategic, fascinating, incredible… and the list goes on. I spent time traveling from Ann Arbor to Ferndale, Dearborn to Grosse Pointe, Berkley to Detroit, and further north. The intention? There was no significant intention. The outcomes? Let’s talk about it! First some context…

Last week, as mentioned here, I attended St. Bonaventure University’s 164th Commencement Exercises. The commencement address was delivered by Delta CEO Ed Bastian, class of ‘79. Ed is an innovative visionary in corporate America and is one of the most highly regarded CEO’s in the world.

In a warm and charismatic speech, addressed to the promising class of 2024, Ed delivered salt of the earth lessons and advice. He talked about the stuff that doesn’t live in our textbooks, especially the business school ones. You could say that Ed talked about the “soft” skills, or the things generally placed second and third in industry.  As you can imagine, I loved it.

He emphasized so many deeply valuable concepts and practices that we research and “teach” in our AMC Masterclasses and speaking events. To give you an idea, the following are some of my loose notes from his speech:

  • Your good name is all you have. It’s your brand. Protect it and your reputation. It’s the best investment you can make.

  • Character is revealed in crisis. The measure of a man is how he handles defeat. Embrace defeat as a learning experience.

  • Make learning your life-long pursuit.

  • Know and exercise the power of inner confidence and strength. Not arrogance, or cockiness, but humble, inner confidence.

All of these “things” directly relate to our communication habits. Then Ed revealed that he is one of nine siblings. He emphasized the value of teamwork. Teamwork was a part of his upbringing. Ed believes Delta’s highly rated success stems from the fact that he fosters an environment where people work cohesively as a team. (Ed, in the off chance you’re reading this, Pax et Bonum, for everything said in your speech).

The AMC Vision is to create profound UNITY (internationally) by reinvigorating “the genuine” human exchange. In the community of “good” business, there is an agreement that exists and has existed for centuries. Businesses thrive by working, or communicating, cohesively with other businesses. Businesses succeed when their internal teams are encouraged to collaborate, or communicate, and support one another. This doesn’t mean competition goes to the wayside. No, it’s not that simple. It means effective and Mindful Communication are the key ingredients to wild success.

The business owners I met with this week all revealed their inner Ed Bastian. There was no scarcity mindset. We talked about lifting one another up. We talked about community. We talked about leading with goodness and strength. We collaborated. We communicated so elegantly about our missions, visions, and values. We made good on our names. And for this reason, new business ideas were created, new paths of thinking were symphonically formed, and new meetings to generate good business were set.

You know and I know it’s time for a change. Our AMC 3 C’s Mindful Communication Model™, Consciousness, Communication, Community, is an innovative, research-based model that changes the professional development playing field. At AMC we’re normalizing consciousness in professional society and encouraging mindfulness at work to sustain effective communication in all business communities.

This spring and summer AMC is on tour. We want to present our interactive learning lab experiences with business leaders like you. We’re partnering with companies that have people-first missions, to carry out the AMC vision: to internationally reinvigorate the trustworthy exchange, by rewriting the narrative about communication as a “soft skill.”

Send me an email today so we can set a date and start planning a meaningful experience. Together, let’s create and foster empathetic, resilient, and innovative professional communities, Mindfully Speaking.

I look forward to our good work together. Sending gratitude & presence to you.
